Submersible Pump

What Type of Maintenance Does a Submersible Pump Need?

Submersible pumps, just like any other machine, need regular maintenance if they are to work correctly and last as long as possible. The average lifespan of a submersible pump is typically ten years. Here at Ackerson Pump Company, our submersible well pumps last anywhere from 18 to 20 years. With proper maintenance and professional repairs, your submersible pump could last this long too. Follow the maintenance guidelines below to keep your pump in top-notch condition.

Lubricate the Pump

Keep your submersible well pump in working condition by lubricating it as needed. Follow the guidelines provided by the specific submersible pump manufacturer. Be sure not to over-grease it, as that can cause damage to the bearings.

Check for Overheating

If there’s not enough water in the well to cool the pump or if the pump is failing, it can easily become overheated. This can result in very expensive repairs. This is why we suggest you check often for any signs of overheating.

Inspect the Motor

The pump’s motor should be inspected regularly too. Examine all the terminations, ensuring they are tight, and inspect the starter to check that it is not overheating.

Replace Seals and Hoses

The seals and hoses that make up the submersible pump can also show wear and tear. If not inspected often, they can cause quite a bit of damage once they begin to deteriorate. The moment you notice a problem with any seals or hoses, replace them immediately.
