The first thing we suggest you do is to check the breaker box. Often, a breaker gets tripped, and the solution is as simple as resetting it or replacing the fuse. This is especially common in older homes. If this seems to be an ongoing problem, it could be a short within the electrical wiring itself. In this case, you may want to hire an electrician to look into it further.
If the breaker box isn’t the problem, the next step would be to check the pressure gauge of your well pump. This will tell you whether the problem lies inside your home or in the well itself. The pressure should read between 40 and 60 psi. If the pressure is in this range but you still don’t have water, then the problem is most likely an internal plumbing issue. If the pressure is low or at zero, then there is something definitely wrong with the well system.
Another area to check that can sometimes break down is the pressure switch. Over time, this switch can become corroded, causing a malfunction in the well pump. Be careful as you check the switch as the contacts are live, and you don’t want to harm yourself. If the switch is corroded or damaged in any way, it’s best to call in a professional to repair or replace the pump.
