Water Tanks

When Should I Have My Home’s Well Water Tank Serviced?

A home’s well water system is an important part of a well-functioning home. Just as you would have your heating and cooling systems maintained on a routine schedule, it’s a good idea to have your well water system checked regularly too. While Ackerson Pump Company recommends having the well tank serviced every two to three years, if you begin to notice any signs of wear and tear, it may be time to have it checked even sooner.

How Does a Water Tank Work?

First, it’s good to know exactly how a well water tank works, so you know what to look for in a damaged or deteriorating water tank. Every well water tank contains air. This air is pressurized as the well pump moves water from the well into the tank. The compressed air then pushes the water through the system and into your home, allowing you to take a shower, run the dishwasher, flush the toilet, and much more. As the pressure decreases, the pump turns back on to pressurize the water, providing a steady stream of water for your home.

Signs of a Bad Water Tank

When you begin to notice symptoms such as these, it’s time to have your well water tank checked by a professional plumber:

  • Low water pressure
  • Unsteady water pressure
  • Pump that cycles on and off repeatedly
  • Corrosion on the exterior of the tank
  • Excessive air in the plumbing system
